Harris, Greg Asleep in Jesus Wednesday, January 23, 2013.
Beloved husband of Linda Luetkemeier; dearest father of Jessica Harris; dear son of Ira and the late Rita Harris; brother of Brenda Diederich, Monte, Kip, and Les Harris and the late Barbara McManus; our dear son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend.
Greg's professional interests crossed into many areas over his career. His early career was with the Ironworkers Local 396, proudly serving the local for 20 years, retiring in 2001. He was a mortgage loan officer for over 15 years, and in his spare time performed stand-up comedy for 10 years. In his later years, he turned his life-long love of photography into a professional career. Greg amassed an extensive collection of photos of St. Louis architecture, landmarks and construction sites, including old Busch Stadium, and construction of the new stadium. He showed his photos at many local art fairs and had several exclusive exhibits including the Met Square Building in St. Louis and the Edwardsville Arts Center in Edwardsville, Illinois. He won photography awards from the prestigious Irv Shankman Photography contest at UMSL, and his work is represented in the Feldacker Collection of Labor and Industrial Art in Clayton. After moving to rural New Melle, his focus expanded to documenting old barns before they're extinct. He used this collection to create a poster of the Doors of St. Charles County. At the time of his death, he was editing his photographic book depicting the history of St. Louis Ironworkers, which is now with the editors.
Greg loved life, his family and friends and found joy everyday in the beauty around him, in the people he met and the laughter of others. He'll be missed by all who had the pleasure to enjoy his wonderful spirit. Service Monday, January 28, 11 AM at COLLIER’S Funeral Home 3400 N. Lindbergh Blvd. (St. Ann). Interment Bellerive Heritage Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Louis HELP (Health Equipment Lending Program). Visitation Sunday 3-8 PM.
