Obituary

Arthur (Corky) Dailey, 94, of St. Louis, previously of Hazelwood, MO, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born January 10, 1931, the youngest of six children to Clara and Charles Dailey. After graduating from Normandy High School, he served in the army and was stationed in Germany, which he talked of fondly. We don't think we heard all the stories which was probably a good thing.

After the army, he married Joan Clancy. They raised 7 kids in Hazelwood on Plum Tree Circle and were married for 69 years. As kids, we took for granted how good we had it but as we got older, we realized the sacrifices that they made for us. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish from its beginning to its merger with St. Martin De Porres.

He was an auto mechanic and worked his tail off for his family. After working all day on cars, most evenings you would find him and Dewey working on neighbors' cars in Kavanaugh's garage. It seemed like everyone in the neighborhood had them work on their cars. Even as he got older, he would work on his kids' and grandkids' cars. He was always determined to find the problem. When he wasn't working on cars, he was either coaching his kids in sports, working on his yard and garden or watching sports on TV. He was very proud of his lawn and gardens. He loved sitting on his patio drinking a cold beer listening to the Cardinals on the radio. His life was his wife and kids.

He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father in-law, son-in law, brother in-law, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Charles Dailey, Loretta Brockmiller, Evelyn Miller, Eileen Beatty and Norman Dailey. He is survived by Joan, his wife of 69 years, his daughters Mary Schurk (Mark), Peggy Stein (Justin), Ann Mohrmann (Rich), Jane Kayser (Pat), Katie Fortier, his sons Kevin (Dawn), Brian (Donna Metz), 33 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

He will be missed but the stories and memories of Cork will be shared among us forever.

Corky donated his body to SLU School of Medicine.
