Bernard M.
O'Brien
Jun 7, 1942 — Feb 26, 2021
Bernard (Tom) Michael O'Brien passed away at the age of 78, peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 26, 2021 after a courageous battle with ALS-FTD.
Tom was born on June 7, 1942 in St. Louis. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, he served in the US Navy from 1962-1970 achieving the rank of EM1, and worked as an electrician at Granite City Steel, retiring in 2012.
Tom was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. He worked hard every day and never missed a day of work. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world and he was unendingly proud of his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Tom was also a passionate political junkie and could be found yelling at the television while watching CSPAN, CSPAN II or writing his favorite politicians. He was also considered somewhat of a sports analyst. You could always find him watching Cardinals baseball and football from what he considered the "best seat"… his living room recliner in front of his big screen TV.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Alice and mother Celeste Grey. He is survived by his wife, Irlinda (nee Miao), daughters; Salina (Louis) Erby, Laura (Shawn) O'Brien-Philpott, Christina (Devon) Burk and son, Sennen (Jolyn) Chow. Tom also leaves behind grandchildren; Louis III, Adair, Dominick, Alexis, (O'Darion), Crysellyn, Cole, Sennen, Javan, Jade, Samara, Syler, Lucas, and Caitlyn, great grandchildren; Louis IV and Kaidyn as well as the Miao family and his brother Alan, sisters; Barbara, Cathy, and Sharon, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
