Bob Klausmeier passed away at his home residence in Bridgeton, Missouri on August 24, 2021. He was born April 6, 1932. He was the oldest son of Gilbert Klausmeier and Virginia Anderson.
Bob truly had the heart of an engineer. From his earliest days, he was fascinated by the way things work. As a child, he was compelled to disassemble his first bicycle in order to understand what made it go. This was as important to him as learning to ride it and whatever places it might take him. This was his journey of discovery. In his youth, he would assemble and fly control line model aircraft, before a passion for electronics led him to build his first radio. Eventually, he followed in his father's footsteps and became an apprentice electrician with IBEW Local 1.
With the onset of the Korean War, and the ensuing military draft, it was the obvious choice for him to become a radar technician in the U.S. Navy. Afterwards, he intended to continue his education and enrolled in Washington University, pursuing an electrical engineering course of study. However, his ultimate path was to become an IBM Customer Engineer, helping to maintain the vast mainframe operations of such prominent St. Louis companies as McDonnell Aircraft (later McDonnell Douglas) and Monsanto Company.
He was an independent, self-reliant, critical thinker, who was guided throughout his life by a strong sense of duty. He was Husband, Dad, and Papa. He is survived by his Daughter Kathy Steerman and husband Jeff: Son Steven, and the family of Dee Dee Briones-Lewitt: Paige, Betty, and Josh.
Wherever he is, you can be sure he is telling someone the way things ought to be done.
Funeral service Tuesday, August 31, 9:00 AM at COLLIER'S Funeral Home, 3400 N. Lindbergh Blvd. (St. Ann). Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation Monday 4:00-8:00 PM.
