Carol Jean
Summa
Dec 9, 1936 — Sep 8, 2025
Carol Jean Summa (nee Keseling) passed away Monday, September 8, 2025
Born December 9, 1936, to George and Anita Keseling. Carol was the youngest of 5 children raised by her mother and grandmother in a small house in St. John. Carol graduated from Normandy High School in 1954. She began work at a young age in a dress factory in Downtown St. Louis and many years at Rexall Drugs.
In 1959, Carol met Robert Allen Summa on a blind date set up by their friends and knew it was true love right away. They married 3 months later at a small courthouse ceremony. Soon came 2 children and spent several years as a stay-at-home mother. Carol also worked in the K-Mart Café and later retired from Watlow Electric, rounding out a long life in the workforce.
Carol was also a proud fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and wouldn't miss a game on radio or TV. She also enjoyed many relaxing hours maintaining a beautifully manicured yard and flowers, even winning Yard Beautification Awards from their hometown of Bridgeton and Better Homes and Garden. Carol loved decorating her home for the holidays, especially the Christmas season.
Carol was the beloved wife of the late Robert Allen Summa; dearest mother of Penny (Steven) Phlipot and Tim Summa (Gina Tognoni); loving grandmother of Noah Phlipot and Grace Phlipot; sister of Georgia Ray, the late Bernice Steiner, the late Magenta Lucas, and the late Joan Sykes; our dear aunt, great aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She never met a stranger she didn't like.
