Obituary

Trosky, Carolyn Ann (Schultz)

Carolyn Trosky passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Carolyn was born in Madison County Mississippi January 8, 1939. She and her family resided in Canton, MS where she and her siblings attended school. Being very outgoing, Carolyn and her twin Barbara, participated in numerous school activities including, playing basketball, playing clarinet in the band, and marching as a majorette.  Carolyn also wrote for the school newspaper eventually becoming editor.  Carolyn and Barbara were famously inseparable and known lovingly as "the Schultz twins". Their lives were almost completely intertwined until they went to college.

Having graduated Salutatorian of her class, Carolyn proceeded to St. Dominic School of Nursing. There she was elected Miss Student Nurse of Mississippi and earned a fellowship to St. Louis University (SLU) where she finished her B.S. in Nursing.  As a registered nurse, she worked in hospitals, nursing homes and an elementary school finishing her career at St. John's Medical Center.  Carolyn's loving nature and caring spirit were felt by all who met her.

While attending SLU, Carolyn met David Trosky at a dance with sister school, Parks College. Dave was an aerospace engineering student and knew after one meeting that he was going to marry Carolyn. So, after graduating he did just that.  They were married August 3, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton, MS.  They settled in St. Louis and raised 4 children.  Heartbroken and grieving after Barbara's passing, Carolyn and Dave took in her twin's children not only giving them a good home but creating a space for them to become part of the family. They would have had it no other way.

Carolyn made sure her children experienced multiple types of activities including dance, gymnastics, soccer, baseball, and softball.  She even taught her girls, and the neighborhood kids, how to twirl a baton.

Carolyn, Dave, and family were devoted members of St. Blaise Catholic Church (Holy Spirit) where they participated in multiple activities.  Carolyn taught religion school one evening a week and she and Dave participated in religious retreats so they could learn more about their faith. She also took communion to many homebound parishioners and the sisters at The Sarah Community where she often attended daily mass. In 2015 Dave and Carolyn moved into independent living in the Sarah Community where they made many new friends and rekindled relationships with older friends.

Carolyn was often described as a social butterfly and loved being with her friends and family. Several times she worked with her friends to raise money for the Humane Society by helping to create dances and skits that they would perform for the community for a small admission fee. One performance included her and her friends dressing up like the group The Village People and singing "YMCA". She also made sure her children had connections with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins by attending every family reunion where fun was had by all.

Carolyn generously lived God's command to "love your neighbor".  As everyone who met her knows, she never met a stranger.  Carolyn will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Carolyn is survived by her four children-Catherine Trosky Meyer (husband Mark), Theresa Trosky, David Trosky (wife Darlene), Barbara Trosky Feldman (husband Gene); her two nieces to whom she became guardian-Ann Marie Carreiro Snodgrass, and Carol Carreiro; her fourteen grandchildren-Andrew, Matthew, Jack, Elise, Sean, Joe, Vincent, Luke, Ryan, Abby, John, Allison, Rachel and Valerie; her sole great grandchild Aurora; and her treasured brother Joseph John Schultz, Jr. (wife Sandra).

She is preceded in death and welcomed into eternal peace by her beloved husband David, her parents, Joseph John Schultz, Sr., and Nell Rose Schultz; and her most cherished twin sister and best friend, Barbara Schultz Carreiro; along with numerous lifelong friends, cousins, and nieces whom she cherished as blessings.  Thanks to all who loved and supported Carolyn and her family.

A visitation will be held at Collier's Funeral Home in Bridgeton, Missouri Friday, December 1, 2023, from 5 to 8 pm.

A funeral mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Maryland Heights, Missouri Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11 am.
