Obituary

Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, Catherine Marie Vatterott, fondly known as "Catherine thank-you," passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Born on September 14, 1945, she was the beloved daughter of the beautiful Mary Patricia Dolan Vatterott and Gregory Vatterott, and was lovingly raised by her adopted father, Charles F. Vatterott Jr. She was married to the late Greg Langdon and was stepmother to Melissa Langdon and Tisha Brown, and step-grandmother to five.

Catherine was the 10th child in a large, close-knit family. She was predeceased by her siblings Mary Jane Harris (late Mike Harris), Patsy Erker (late Bill Erker), Peggy Danna (late Frank Danna), Martha Flavan (late David Flavan), Charles Vatterott III, Mary Ann Holden (late Gerry), Gregory Vatterott (Susan), and John Vatterott (Joan). She is survived by her siblings Kathleen Valenta (late Rich Valenta), Susan Bresnan, Chris Vatterott (Nancy Vatterott), Genevieve Coughlin (Jim Coughlin), Winnie Greathouse (Mike Greathouse), Claire Hundelt (Bruce Hundelt), Robert Vatterott (Martha Vatterott), and Betty Vatterott.

A devoted family historian, Catherine cataloged and kept record of the names and vital statistics of over 1000 extended Vatterott family members. Catherine's life was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith and love for her family. She was known for her keen intellect, strong will, and adventurous spirit. She enjoyed classical music, traveled the world where she never met a stranger. Catherine served her community as a St. Ann Alderman for the 5th Ward and was an advocate for education, social justice, and the inherent dignity of all people.
Catherine's passions extended to reading, board games, gardening, and watching Perry Mason. Her wit and love for learning were evident in everything she did, and she generously shared her resources and time with others. As a Eucharistic minister and a volunteer reader for the nonprofit "Mind's Eye," Catherine dedicated herself to helping those in need.

To honor Catherine's memory, donations can be made to Mind's Eye or All Souls Catholic Church. You are also invited to remember her in your prayers, celebrating her legacy of faith, family, and service. In keeping with her giving nature, Catherine donated her body to St. Louis University Medical School.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 AM on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the All Souls Catholic Church 9550 Tennyson Ave. Overland, MO 63114.  The celebration of life luncheon will follow in the Parish Center.
