Charles Edd
Robinson
Sep 21, 1941 — Jun 16, 2022
Charles E. "Chuck" Robinson passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on Thursday, June 16th, 2022. Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle.
He also adored his grandchildren. His six grandchildren meant everything to him and they loved their "Papa."
Chuck grew up in St. Louis and graduated from Southwest High School, where he lettered in baseball and basketball. He later became the first in his family to graduate from college earning a Bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
He was an honorable man, who provided for his family both financially and with words of wisdom and encouragement. He was stern but fair and raised his children to be accountable and responsible.
From 1967 to 1969, he served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army earning the U.S. Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, among others.
It was during his seven-day R&R, (Rest and Recreation) that his love story began. Some soldiers went to Hawaii and many others visited Sydney, Australia. Chuck went to Sydney. It was there on a harbor-tour boat, named the Honey Hush , that Chuck met his future bride and love of his life - Gloria.
After a brief courtship, Chuck returned to Vietnam. Chuck and Gloria would correspond until his second tour of duty was finished. A vacation to Northern California and a side trip to St. Louis would change the course of their lives. Chuck and Gloria married in St. Louis in 1969, and a year later, welcomed their daughter Shannon into their family. Chuck and Gloria were married for 45 years.
Known by most of our friends growing up as "Big Chuck," he could be intimidating, but mostly he was a big teddy bear who relished hanging out with his family and friends, singing along with his records, barbecuing, reading, playing cards, coaching Jamie in Little League, and making CDs to add to his music collection. He worked hard as bricklayer and won awards for his work.
Chuck was an avid sports enthusiast who loved his Cardinals, Blues, and the 1999 Rams. He loved attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and could often be overheard "coaching" from the sidelines.
Chuck is survived by his children, Stephen (Patti), Jamie (Patty), Shannon (Greg), his grandchildren, Patrick, Lindsay, Allie, Kyle, Chloe, and Sophia, and his two Great-Grandchildren, Mila Rose and Tyler James Webb.
Despite how difficult this is for us, we know Chuck is reunited with his wonderful wife, and loved ones, and is at peace. He will forever be in our hearts and memories and he is missed deeply. Rest in peace Chuck, and give our love to Gloria when you see her!
