Dolores A.
Berger
Jul 28, 1924 — Mar 6, 2023
After living what she called a "beautiful life" for 98 years Dolores Antoinette Berger
passed away suddenly and peacefully at her home on March 6, 2023. She was born to her loving parents Theodore and Antoinette Hampe on July 28, 1924, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dolores is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Dennis Saffa; and by her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Lynn Berger. Also surviving is her dear brother, Monsignor Raymond Hampe. Dolores was the loving and proud grandmother of Stephanie (Craig) Venker, Kristen Saffa, Aaron (Kati) Berger, Kevin (Lindsey) Saffa, and Jon (Emily) Berger. The joys of her life were her 9 great-grandchildren: Owen, Sam and Julia Venker; Max and Harper Berger; Laney and Keaton Saffa; and Lucy and Claire Berger. "G.G." loved them so very much!
Dolores was preceded in death by her dear parents; her devoted husband, Gilbert W. Berger; and their infant son, Jimmy.
Dolores was a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Dolores graduated in 1942 from St. John the Baptist High School. In 1947 she married Gil, the love of her life. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage until Gil's death in 1991.
Dolores was a member of St. Gregory/Holy Trinity Catholic Church in St. Ann, where she volunteered in church activities. Her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was an employee of the Ritenour School District, enjoying her job as a cafeteria worker at Hoech Middle School, where she made life-long friends. Dolores was also a volunteer with the Peregrine Society at the St. Ann Community Center, again meeting ladies who became great friends. Dolores was grateful for her Hardees' friends, with whom she solved the problems of the world over a cup of coffee.
When her children were young, she made her house an inviting and fun gathering place for their friends. Later she enjoyed making holidays special by cheerfully and lovingly hosting memorable family celebrations.
Dolores had wonderful memories of her vacations later in life with her beloved brother, Ray, traveling to many destinations in both the U.S. and Europe. Her family enjoyed the photos and stories of those fun trips.
She loved spending time with family, reading, watching old movies and St. Louis sports teams, and keeping up with current events.
Dolores always reminded her family that "Life is Beautiful". She will be remembered for her sweet disposition. Her positive attitude will continue to inspire all of us who miss her dearly.
In celebration of Dolores' life, services will be held at St. Robert Bellermine Catholic Church
