Donald R.
"Don" Vandervort
Feb 28, 1946 — Dec 16, 2025
Vandervort, Donald R. "Don" Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
Beloved son of the late Claude & Cora Vandervort (nee Finnegan); loving husband of Shirley A. Vandervort; dearest father of Denise Vandervort and Charles "Casey" (Karen) Vandervort; stepfather of Gene (Kelly) Clements. Poppy of Cora, Claire, Abigail & Olivia; dear brother of Judy, Barbara, Patricia and the late Janine, Claude & Bill. Our dear brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Donald "Don" Vandervort had a lifelong passion for sports. Growing up, basketball was his favorite, and he excelled in both basketball and baseball during his years at Mercy High School, graduating with the class of 1965. His talent on the diamond earned him a draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, a testament to his athletic ability.
After high school, his love for speed led him to race cars for a time, until an accident ended his racing days. He drove for Miller/Stag before moving to Grey Eagle, where he dedicated over 20 years of service before retiring in 2000.
Golf became his true passion later in life. Known for his low handicap and being a part of WingHaven Country Club where he won numerous member-guest tournaments, including a memorable victory alongside golf legend Sam Snead. He served on the men's golf committee for several years at WingHaven Country Club and proudly claimed the Club Championship in 2008. His desire to play year-round inspired a move to Florida, where he became an active member of the Heritage Palms Golf Club and its men's league.
Beyond sports, he was a loving and caring man who cherished time with his family. He delighted in teasing his kids and grandkids, creating laughter and lasting memories. A devoted fan of the Missouri Tigers, he attended many games, cheering them on with enthusiasm.
His life was defined by passion, dedication, and love—for his family, his friends, and the games he played. He leaves behind a legacy of joy, sportsmanship, and unwavering kindness
