Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth Wood was born on July 2, 1938, to Clark and Treva Libhart in Cuba, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman V. Wood. Dorothy grew up in a close-knit family alongside her brothers, Neil (Debbie) Libhart and Roy (Patricia) Libhart, who instilled in her strong values and a deep sense of togetherness. She devoted herself entirely to motherhood, raising her children—Benny Hensley (Althea), Michael Hensley (Nancy), and Maryellen Gatewood—with great love and commitment.

In 2002, Dorothy married Herman and embraced her role as a bonus mother to his children: Robert Wood (Nona), Mary Bushnell (Jeff), Terry Wood, and John Wood (Holly). Her heart swelled with joy as she became Grandma Dot, cherishing each of her grandchildren: Griffith Gatewood (Brooke), Hayla Gatewood, Elizabeth Wood, Michael Wood, Mikaela Bushnell, Jenna Bushnell, Thomas Bushnell, Nicholas Bushnell, Eddie Bushnell, Jon Wood, Amanda Wood, Kaylee Wood, Tyler Weyrich, Taylor Weyrich, Tanner Weyrich,Tegan Weyrich, Stephanie Hensley and Nicole Hensley.  Dorothy also celebrated her role as a great-grandmother to Graham, Briar, and Brielle Gatewood. Her unwavering support and love have left a remarkable legacy that continues to inspire those who were lucky enough to know her.

Professionally, Dorothy made a significant impact as a nanny for the Hillman family, nurturing Max Hillman (Abby), Ben Hillman (Claire), and Natalie throughout their childhood. The bonds she formed were enduring, showcasing her belief that family is defined by love rather than blood.

Dorothy's passions included cooking and gardening, but her heart truly belonged to the St. Louis Cardinals. She followed the team with fierce loyalty, taking their setbacks to heart. Her unwavering dedication to "her" boys was evident as she cheered them on and celebrated their victories with genuine enthusiasm. Whether in the kitchen, tending her garden, or watching a game, Dorothy lived each moment with vibrant spirit and unmatched passion.
