Obituary

Erma Nell Hawkins

July 29, 1924 - July 16, 2023

Erma was one of 7 children; she was the 3rd born and the 1st of two girls.  She helped her mother and midwife deliver her other siblings.

She only had an 8th grade education. She took care of her siblings, during the depression she stood in breadlines with her mother.

When Erma was 23, she worked at a company called Aeropath, her friend Ivern introduced her to the brother of the man she was dating, his name was Monroe (Monty as Erma called him) this was in Dec. 1946 and on Feb. 8th, 1947, they married, they had 51 years of a very special loving life together. They had 3 children together, in 1951 twin boys came along – Vic and Rick, and in 1959 their only girl – Sandy.

Monty passed in Jan. 1999, Erma never remarried stating, he was the love of her life.  In Oct. 2000, Erma sold their house and moved to Florida with her daughter, her husband and two children. She lived with them for 23 years.

Over the years Erma donated to many nonprofit organizations for children and to the church.

Her husband Monroe proceeded her in death, as did her parents, all her siblings and most of their spouses and one daughter in law Sharron (Vic's wife).

She is survived by her 2 sons Vic and Rick (Debbie), daughter Sandy (Jan), 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Erma passed before her 99th Birthday. She was a very special lady; she never met a stranger and could light up a room! She will be missed SO much!
