Gregory Thomas McCullough
January 4, 1947 – September 24, 2025
Gregory Thomas McCullough was born on January 4, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Lawrence Joseph McCullough and Oma Jean (née Manasco) McCullough. He passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, joining his beloved parents and his brother, Jeffery Lawrence McCullough, in eternal rest.
Greg is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Linda Jo Mavity (David) and Rebecca Jean Myers (Michael), as well as his many nieces and nephews: Jennifer Jordan Kelly, Lisa Cronin Sebnick (Matthew), Brian Cronin, Michael Myers, Katherine Myers Wilson (Kyle), John Myers (Nicole), Gregory Myers, Kimberly Myers Bales (Patrick), Monica Myers, Barbara Myers Billinger (Matthew), James Myers, Elizabeth Myers Janacaro (Michael), and Phillip Myers. He also leaves behind a large extended family of great-nieces and great-nephews who brought him joy.
Greg grew up in St. Ann, Missouri, where he attended St. Gregory's Parish School and graduated from Ritenour High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970. As a gunner's mate and "brown water sailor" during the Vietnam War, Greg demonstrated courage and resilience. Later, he served aboard the USS Iwo Jima, traveling to the Philippines and Hong Kong, and participated in the recovery mission for Apollo 13 in April 1970. During his service, he was honored with the title of "Shellback," having crossed the equator and been initiated into the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep. After his military service, Greg attended the University of Missouri–Columbia, where he studied journalism. He eventually found his professional calling as a carpenter specializing in cabinet refinishing.
Greg was a man of quiet intellect and deep curiosity. He had a passion for archaeology and devoured National Geographic magazines with enthusiasm. He enjoyed fishing, reading, and watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Greg had a gentle, introverted spirit and a dry wit that made him a delightful conversationalist in the right company. He had a soft spot for strawberries, pimento cheese sandwiches, and ice cream—simple pleasures that brought him happiness. Though he never married, Greg never lost his appreciation for pretty ladies. In his later years, he lovingly cared for his aging parents, a testament to his loyalty and compassion. He eventually moved into a memory care facility, where he was supported with dignity and care.
His family welcomes you to visitation at Collier's Funeral Home, 3400 North Lindbergh Blvd, St. Ann, Missouri on Friday, September 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Loved ones will gather for a prayer service at the funeral home on Saturday, September 27th at 10:00 a.m. then drive to interment at Calvary Cemetery, 5239 West Florissant Ave, St. Louis, MO 63115.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Greg's memory to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Disease Research, or the American Diabetes Association.
