Harold was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on July 1, 1938 to JB and Morene (Williams) McGill. He enjoyed a happy childhood there with his sister Doris (McGill) Reynolds and his many cousins and friends. Harold attended college in Michigan. We often heard the story of how he traveled by bus with a set of glass bowls for his mother for Christmas. He was very proud to have made the trip without breaking any of those bowls (which survive to this day).
During this time he met W. Loreda Wooten and they began their courtship. Harold loved to drive and had many jobs driving. His first was as a young man driving trucks around the Jonesboro area. Loreda spoke of how excited she would get just seeing his truck come down her street and knowing he was close. They soon decided they should spend their lives together.
They married June 13, 1959 and decided to move to Bartlesville, Oklahoma so Harold could continue his studies.
While in Bartlesville, they welcomed two daughters into their family. Roselyn (Richard) Manis and Robin (Rudy) Jagdharry. They soon moved their small family to Springfield, Missouri.
They provided a loving, happy home for their daughers. Harold could always be found sitting on the floor with his girls wrestling and playing. There was always much love in the house tempered with firm discipline.
Harold cared deeply for people. He loved to laugh and joke with everyone. He also wanted others to share his deep-rooted faith and decided to follow his calling into full-time ministry. He ministered to many through his years in Poplar Bluff, Webster Groves and Overland Missouri.
Harold and Loreda were able to enjoy many years of retirement together. They traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Yosemite, Smokies and many other great adventures. At home, Harold loved to take care of his garden and yard. He was always happy mowing his yard and keeping it in tip-top shape.
Even as his Alzheimers progressed, his love of music never left him. He could continue to sing the words of his favorite songs and always wanted his Christian music playing as he ate.
Harold and Loreda were married 63 years. Their family continued to grow with the addition of 6 grandchildren: Ricky, Scott, Lisa, Kristen, Stephen, and Jonathan. From there it continues to grow with 10 great-grandchildren and counting.
Harold will be greatly missed by his wife, daughters, family and many friends that knew him.
