Joan
Dailey
Mar 19, 1934 — Nov 13, 2025
Joan Dailey (nee Clancy), 91, of St. Louis, previously of Hazelwood, MO, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025, after a long battle with dementia.
She was born March 19,1934, the oldest of eight children to Robert and Celeste Clancy. After graduating from Loretto Academy, she worked at Brown Shoe Co. as a secretary until she married Corky Dailey. They raised 7 kids in Hazelwood on Plum Tree Circle and were married for 69 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish from its beginning to its merger with St. Martin DePorres.
Joan was the ultimate homemaker taking care of the family with her cooking, cleaning and loving discipline of the kids when they needed it. Some of us needed it more than others. As we grew up, we took for granted that everyday there would be a packed lunch with our name on it for school and that there would be a big dinner with a homemade dessert every night. Dad worked hard as an auto mechanic and Mom worked hard taking care of the house. They were the perfect team. She cherished her Catholic faith and she always was willing to help anyone in need. After the kids were grown, she volunteered at Meals on Wheels and Birthright.
She tutored children through Oasis and was a secretary at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Special
School District and Visitation Academy.
She spoke often of her aunts, her cousins, her life long friends from high school, growing up in Pine Lawn and going to Goody Goody. She loved Goody Goody. She enjoyed singing, laughing, reading, playing Scrabble, Gene Kelly and watching old movies on Channel 9. She especially loved the Clancy family picnics and Christmas parties. Her Easter brunch was always an event that no one wanted to miss. She never missed sending a card or making a phone call on your birthday. Birthday and Christmas gifts from her were always personal and on target, products of some fretting and much thoughtfulness.
She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, daughter-in law, mother, mother in-law, sister in-law, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her husband Corky, mother and father Robert and Celeste Clancy, brothers Jim Clancy, Brian Clancy, and her sisters, Mary Jane Flanagan and Judy Shockley. She is survived by her daughters Mary (Mark) Schurk, Peggy (Justin) Stein, Ann (Rich) Mohrmann, Jane (Pat) Kayser, Kate Fortier, her sons Kevin (Dawn), Brian (Donna Metz), 33 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, her brothers Bob Clancy, Denny Clancy and her sister Kathy Umfleet.
We will always remember her stories, her kindness, her faith in God and her faith in her family.
