Obituary

Cova, John A. Friday, September 26, 2025. Beloved husband of JoAnn M. Cova (nee Bax). Adored father of Rachael Cova; cherished Paw-Paw to Kennedy Grace and Adalynn Jo Purcell; dear son of the late John and Genevieve Cova; dear brother of Patricia (Jim) Eickhorst, Mary (Denny) Nugent, the late Maggie (survived by Al Haill) Barbara and (the late Tom Patterson), Jane and (the late Dan Kehm), the late Judy Lacy, Theresa and Don Szwabo; Dear brother-in-law of Kathleen (Ken) Jackson, Tony (Patti) Bax, Terry (Peg) Bax and the late Ed (survived by Nancy Bax); our dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Johnny Cova grew up in Overland and was a proud Zykanite. As the youngest of the family with 7 sisters, he got lots of great advice and terrible hand me downs. John worked at the Gateway Tower in downtown St. Louis for over 40 years and could navigate the streets of downtown like a pro.  There he grew an extended family who loved him and remained active in his life to this day.

John was known for his booming voice, quick wit, great one-liners, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. He had a lifelong love of golf and never missed a chance to play a round with friends or talk about the game. He loved his Blues and was a proud Clipper and a Pucker.

Though he had many friends who cherished him, John's heart belonged first and foremost to his family. He was full of love for the women surrounding him in his life- his wife, his daughter, and his 2 granddaughters.

In Spring of 2024, John's life was extended through the extraordinary gift of a kidney transplant from a dear friend. He is a strong advocate for organ donation and Mid America Transplant. His family hopes his story will inspire others to register as an organ donor.

Joann and Rachael extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone for the outpouring of love, support and kindness during this time. Every call, message, and memory shared has brought great comfort and is deeply appreciated.
