Judy Frances
Sheets
Nov 25, 1934 — Jan 10, 2021
Judy Sheets was born on November 25, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas as the fourth child to Dr. Frank and Alice Menehan. Judy passed away on January 10, 2021 in Bridgeton, Missouri at the age of 86. Judy was preceded in death by sisters Madelon Ainsworth and Jo Ellen Menehan and is survived by her brother Dr. James Menehan.
Judy grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and then attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1955. While at Kansas State, she met the "rosy cheeked" farm boy from rural Kansas who became her husband for 58 years. Together Wayne and Judy Sheets raised five children and led a life full of family, friends, fun and positive influences on others. Wayne Sheets preceded Judy in death in July 2013.
Judy possessed a combination of intellect, curiosity, creativity, vibrancy, and an upbeat outlook which made it a joy to be in her company. She was effortlessly stylish, with a smile that lit up a room. The brainy side of her beauty and brains combination was evident in her work as a computer programmer for McDonnell Douglas, her ability at the bridge table, her avid love of reading, and her impossible to beat skills at Words with Friends.
When you sat down to talk with Judy you knew you were going to have a real conversation. She had keen listening and conversation skills. She made you feel important and good about yourself. Whether the subject was the weather, politics, Cardinal baseball, or some issue of real significance, she made you glad you took the time to talk. She also had an uncanny ability to punctuate a conversation with a song or saying.
Family was the most important part of Judy's life. She is survived by daughter Stephanie Cupp and her husband Steve, son Jeff Sheets and his wife Pat, son Chris Sheets and his wife Pat, daughter Jennifer Hoeynck and her husband Bill, and daughter Elizabeth Twomey and her husband David. In addition to these five children, Judy was blessed with eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. The fun and laughter that permeates the gatherings of this family group was a source of great pride and joy for Judy.
Judy was also active in the community, whether it was working to stop airport expansion from destroying Bridgeton neighborhoods, volunteering for the Bridgeton Historical Society, or delivering Meals on Wheels.
