Linn Monroe Gann passed away peacefully at home the evening of Friday, August 26, with his wife, Shirley, by his side. He was 90 years old.
Linn is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Irene (Easter) Gann, and two older brothers, Ivan Burl and Delbert. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Shirley (Zieba), brother Delroy, children Stephen (Teresa), John, Mary (Aron) Smith, and Alex, niece Debby and her daughter Rachel, grandchildren Caitlin (Tylor) Moore, Andrea Wilsman, Ethan Smith, and Braedon Smith, and great-grandchildren Judson Wilsman and Sadie Moore. Linn never met a stranger and could get a lamppost to talk, and during his lifetime he welcomed many into his circle who thought of him as a father figure, mentor, outstanding neighbor, and friend.
Born on April 17, 1932 in Bonne Terre, Missouri, as the youngest of four red-headed brothers, Linn graduated from Bonne Terre High School in 1951 and joined the Air Force shortly thereafter where he was trained as electrician. He served for four years and was honorably discharged in 1955, and in 1956 earned a job at St. Louis based McDonnell Douglas as a fighter jet electrician before retiring in 1993 after thirty-eight years with the company.
Linn married the love of his life, Shirley, on August 13, 1960, and they moved to their current residence in unincorporated St. Louis County in 1962. Linn and Shirley shared many adventures and built a wonderful life for themselves surrounded by their children, extended family, and many, many friends. Linn belonged to the American Legion, loved traveling in their motorhome, would drop everything to help someone in need, and tinkered constantly in an effort to fix or improve everything he
came
in contact with. He was also a master mechanic and working on cars was both his passion and a way to love on people. Most of all, Linn thrived on being with his family and was happiest when he was surrounded by the laughter of those he loved.
