Lisa Kay Hogbin
October 13, 1958 – February 26, 2024
Lisa Kay Hogbin (née Blumenkamp) was accepted into the loving grace of God's heavenly kingdom on February 26th, 2024. Lisa was born on October 13th, 1958 in Breese, Illinois, the first child of Reverend Edwin and Betty Blumenkamp. Sisters Lori, Joy and brother John would round out her immediate family.
Lisa graduated from Glencoe High School in Glencoe, Minnesota in 1976 and earned a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota in 1980. It was there that she met and became engaged to Daryl Hogbin. They were married in St. Louis on June 20th, 1981 and welcomed sons Daniel and Zach into their lives in 1987 and 1991 respectively. They celebrated Daniel's marriage to Jessica in January 2009 and rejoiced in the birth of Felix the following November.
Lisa taught first and second grade in the Ritenour School District for 30 years and retired in 2011 following her initial diagnosis of breast cancer. Along the way she earned a Masters Degree in Education from Maryville University and was honored as Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award in 2007. Following her formal retirement Lisa continued to substitute teach and expounded on her passion for helping children whose first language was not English. She attained her certification in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) from UMSL and was selected as a presenter at the TESOL convention in Toronto in 2015. Lisa worked part time as an adjunct professor for the University of Missouri St. Louis and Park University until the fall of 2023.
Lisa was a woman of faith and was actively involved at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher, reader, communion assistant and altar guild and bell choir member. She formed deep bonds with members of her faith community.
Cancer returned in 2018 and Lisa battled courageously through various rounds of radiation and chemo that challenged her body but not her faith or spirit. She was active in Cancer Companions supporting others as they learned to live with cancer. Lisa entered home hospice in January and was surrounded by family and squeezed her husband's hand as she drew her final earthly breath.
Those left to mourn her bodily presence but rejoice in her eternal life are husband Daryl, sons Daniel (Jessica) and Zach and her beloved grandchild Felix, her mother, Betty Blumenkamp, sisters Lori (Keith) Nickoloff, Joy Brooker, brother John Blumenkamp, and sister-in-law Diane (Steve) Hammond. Also left behind to grieve are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and dozens of loving friends. She is reunited in heaven with her father, Edwin Blumenkamp and brother-in-law, Mark Brooker.
