Obituary

Lucille "never missed a meal" Nester (Vowell) passed Sunday, December 5, 2021

Beloved wife of the late George A. Nester; dearest mother of Paul (Kathy) Nester, Thomas (Pam) Nester, Dani (the late Patricia) Nester and the late (infant twins) Michael and Diane Nester; dear grandmother of Eric Nester, Rachel (Patrick) Shain, and Chelsea (Jobin) Chien; great grandmother of Lily Shain; our dear aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Lucille Catherine was born September 28th, 1924 To Star and Julia Vowell. She grew up alongside her sister Marcella. As a child, she and Marcella would enjoy playing with the dolls that their father made for them. They had vivid imaginations that would take them anywhere they desired.

She met George, the love of her life, while out with her girlfriends at the skating rink George had worked at. He was out in the middle of the rink showing off his stellar skating skills which captured Lucille's heart. These two love birds went on to marry on August 16th, 1944. Together they had 3 surviving children. They would take countless trips down to the Lake of the Ozarks where her children would drink chocolate shakes for breakfast at Gaspers, thus making her the best mom ever.

Once her children were grown and on their own, she and George travelled the country, especially to anywhere that had slots.

Lucille was always quite the song bird. She would always sing around the house as her granddaughters would attest as they soaked up every song that she sang. This led them to take a shine to putting on musicals and skits for Lucille and George.

She was an avid animal lover with a particular affection for black labs, especially her own.
In her later years, if she wasn't at home soaking up a mystery novel, watching the Cardinals, Blues, or Wheel of Fortune, She could be found shopping at Deals or Big Lots.

She had one other true love besides her husband, she had a passionate love affair with ice cream, cookies, and really anything dipped in chocolate.
