Obituary

Lyle L. Downs Passed away on August 4, 2025, surrounded by family.

Lyle was born on June 28, 1937, to Elwin Loyd and Juanita Downs in Shawnee, Oklahoma. As a toddler, Lyle moved with his parents to Bridgeton (Pattonville), Missouri, where he remained a lifelong resident. In childhood, Lyle met his best friend, Jack Branneky. They remained close friends and business partners. Lyle retired from Branneky's and later founded Authorized Builder Sales, which he successfully ran until his retirement in 2012. Lyle was the eldest of his brothers, Melvin (Sandie), Doyle (Sharon), and Kendall (Karen), sharing many adventures and cherished family moments over the years. A 1955 graduate of Pattonville High School, Lyle remained a dedicated classmate and reunion coordinator. After high school, he served in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1963. Lyle married Shirley Waller in September 1958, and they celebrated 64 years together until Shirley's passing in October 2022. Lyle and Shirley were blessed with a daughter, Brenda (Mark), three grandchildren, Bryan (Valerie), Lindsay (Ryan), and Kyle (Taven), and five great-grandchildren, Nolan, Stevie, Lanie, Connor, and Rosaria (Rosie). Lyle and Shirley showered their family with love and a passion for adventure. The Lake of the Ozarks was a cherished family gathering place for generations, fostering outdoor activities and togetherness. They enjoyed numerous snow skiing, fishing trips, and family vacations, a testament to their devotion to family. Lyle was a lifelong member of the Bridgeton Kiwanis, maintaining perfect attendance for over 50 years and forming treasured friendships through the club. Lyle will be deeply missed as he joins Shirley to watch over us all.
