Marissa E.
Etwaroo
Sep 6, 1998 — Jan 22, 2026
Marissa Elizabeth Etwaroo, RN, age 27, was called to her eternal home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).
Marissa was born on September 6, 1998, in St. Louis, to Romain and Mavis Etwaroo.
Marissa attended Rose Acres Elementary School, Holman Middle School, and graduated from Pattonville High School in May 2017. In August 2017, she commenced her studies towards a nursing degree at the University of Missouri – Columbia, then transferred to Central Methodist University, graduating with a nursing degree (BSN) in May 2021. She earned her Registered Nurse (RN) license and began her nursing career with BJC Hospital, St. Louis, in June 2021. After 3 years of serving in BJC's transplant unit, she moved to BJC - Christian Northeast's newly opened transfusion clinic. However, a few days into her new job, in September 2024, she received the devastating news that she had a rare and aggressive cancer of her bile duct. Marissa did not give up. She battled cancer as she worked tirelessly until a few days before she was called home.
As a nurse, Marissa served with a passion. She loved and cared for her patients and coworkers. She saw nursing as God using her to "heal the world, make it a better place."
Marissa was very active in the church. She grew up attending Gateway Nazarene Church, where she was active in Children and Youth Ministries. After college, she attended Refresh Community Church, University City, where she was always active in small groups and other ministries.
Marissa loved her hometown of St. Louis and the St. Louis Cardinals – she fiercely defended both. She loved helping others, advocating for social justice, and standing for equal rights and opportunities for all. She enjoyed crafting and calligraphy, and she was very good at them.
Marissa is survived by her parents Romain and Mavis Etwaroo, sisters Rachel and Sarah, her caring and loving boyfriend Emmanuel Logan, Grandma Sheila Jagdeo; adopted grandparents Mick and Mary McGuire; Cousins Samuel Shamsundar, Michael and Andrew Toeniskoetter, Stephen and Jonathan Jagdharry, Kristen Stephens, Nicholas and Alicia Jagdharry, Briana, Tiffany and Britany Jagdharry, Romayleah, Rochelle, Raelisa and Ronella Etwaroo; Uncles Rommel (Romona) Etwaroo, Jerome (Nirmala) Etwaroo, Soloman (Debbie) Jagdharry, Joshua (Loretta) Jagdharry, Sucil (Marie) Jagdharry; Aunts Olive Etwaroo, Mayleen Jagdharry, Eunice (Samuel) Shamsundar, Lolita (Matthew) Toeniskoetter and Robin Jagdharry; and many friends.
