Obituary

Mary Joan (Eufinger) Raftery, known to most as Joan and lovingly called Nonny by her grandchildren, passed away on April 2, 2026, at her home in Bridgeton, Missouri. She was 81 years old. Born on June 1, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, Joan was a lifelong St. Louisan through and through.

Joan graduated from St. Marks High School in 1962 and married the love of her life, Tom Raftery in May 1965. Together they built a family rooted in loyalty, laughter, and good times.

If you knew Joan, you knew she was fiercely loyal to the people she loved. She cherished her close relationships with her siblings Jimmy Eufinger (Sylvia), Carol Thomann (Jim-Bob), and Sherry O'Connell (John Heitz), and all of their children. She was active in the Hibernians and the Red Hats, always surrounded by friends who meant the world to her.

Joan was a dedicated St. Louis Cardinals fan who attended as many games as she could and made plenty of spring training trips down to Jupiter, Florida. She loved being on the water, whether it was the Muddy Mississippi or the shores of Perdido Key. Honestly, she liked nothing more than a rib and a cold Miller Lite on a porch, and that tells just about all you need to know about her.

Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom, and her son Tim Raftery. She is survived by her sons Mickey (Janet) and Tommy (Theresa) Raftery, and her daughter Kelly (Paul) Ehrnman, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. A wide circle of family and friends will miss her sarcasm and wit.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, April 18 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3130 Parkwood Lane, Maryland Heights, Missouri. Visitation begins at 10:00 at the same location. Please join us for a luncheon following at Meyers Café and Lounge, 1767 N. New Florissant Road. May she find peace and rest in God's loving care.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Shriners Children's Hospital www.shrinerschildrens.org and in lieu of black, wear some Cardinal Red or gear for the services. Joan would have wanted it that way.
