In Loving Memory of Michael "Mike" Casserly
March 11, 1939 – March 27, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael "Mike" Casserly on March 27, 2025, at the age of 86. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and dear friend, Mike touched countless lives with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family.
Born on March 11, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri, Mike lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, and an incredible sense of humor. His greatest joy was his family. His beloved wife, Jean—his partner in life for 61 years—was his rock and the love of his life. As a father and grandfather, he filled their lives with laughter, warmth, and treasured memories. His six grandchildren each shared a unique handshake with him, a small but meaningful tradition that reflected his love and playfulness. With Mike, "Grandpa time" always meant ice cream, fun, and an abundance of love.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Jean (née Budzinski); his loving children, Denise (Ken) Buckles, John (Sandi) Casserly, and Kathie (Dave) Howard; and his adored grandchildren, Kristen Buckles, Nikki (Patrick) Gaughan, Michael Howard, Hanna Casserly, Brendan (Lanny) Casserly, and Maggie Howard. He was a beloved brother to Tom (the late Laverne) Casserly, Vince (the late Karen) Casserly, and Peggy (the late Wayne) Brinker. He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, Luke and Teresa Casserly, and his twin brother, Kevin (Lois) Casserly.
From a young age, Mike embodied the values of dedication and perseverance. While still in high school, he worked full-time night shifts at McDonnell Douglas. After graduating, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy (Air) for two years before returning to McDonnell Douglas to further his career.
However, real estate was his true passion. He earned his Realtorlicense in 1961 and his Broker license in 1963, later founding Chase Realty in 1967. In 1972, he co-developed Town West, a 519-home mobile community, and later launched River Venture LLC, constructing a 60-truck terminal in Marion, Illinois, for coal transport.
In 1982, Mike became Vice President of Community Federal Savings and Loan, playing a key role in securing land for residential development. Five years later, he founded Futura Financial Group, overseeing a wide range of real estate projects, including three golf courses, restaurants, commercial centers, service stations, industrial lots, and approximately 4,000 residential lots. After an accomplished career, he retired in 2005.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mike found joy in fishing at his Lake of the Ozarks house, golfing, and traveling. He lived life to the fullest, always ready with a joke, a warm smile, or a helping hand.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 11, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
Mike's legacy of love, integrity, and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
