Obituary

Michael Doelling, 63, a retired police officer and computer consultant, passed away on Monday, May 31 at his home in Maryland Heights, Missouri peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with illness. He was a lifelong resident of St. Louis County aside from college and his years in the army.

He loved to watch movies and play video games. He had an affinity for learning about history and would watch any documentary that he saw. In his younger days, paintballing was a large hobby of his as well as going to the shooting range with his closest friends. He also enjoyed table top gaming. He met his wife, Laura Doelling, in1987 and one year later they were married in St. Louis. The two loved each other very much and often referred to each other as their best friend. The two were married for 33 years and each one was filled with love and laughter.

He treated her daughter, Julie Maddock as his own and he and Laura proceeded to give birth to their first son, Kevin Doelling, in 1990. Two years later, a daughter, Nicole Doelling followed and Michael took on his very favorite role. Being a dad.

He loved his children more than anything and was always ready to drop what he was doing to play a game or tell them a story. Michael loved spending time with his children over all else and he followed their interests as they grew. From attending every volleyball game of his oldest daughter to seeing every Harry Potter movie with his daughter in theaters to keeping up with the latest games with his son, he always wanted to be connected to them. In his last days, he watched Marvel movies with his daughter, another passion they both shared. Being a dad meant more to him than anything.

He left behind his loving wife, Laura Malich Doelling along with his three children, Nicole Doelling, Kevin Doelling, and Julie Maddock alongside a granddaughter, Amelia Maddock. Michael was also survived by an older sister, Roberta Doelling and brother William Doelling, alongside a mother in law, Caroline Malich and a brother in law, Edward Malich. His is preceded in death by his father, Frank Doelling, his mother, Wilma Doelling, and his sister, Juanita Doelling.

Michael truly was a light in this world that burned out too quickly. We will always hold onto the the memories we shared with him and let them hold onto us. Not a day will go by where he isn't loved and missed.
