Nellie Alice (Squier) Clark passed away peacefully on Jan. 16, 2025 at age 94 in Maryland Heights, MO. Born in Nicholson, PA to Frank Leigh & Leola (Worth) Squier, she is preceded in death by three husbands: George Stoddard, John Rutherford, & Donald Clark, siblings Eva Mae (Hoover) & Robert Squier, & a stepson Donald Rutherford. She is survived by stepdaughter Bonnie (Austin) Rutherford, daughter Debbie (Knoop) & sons John & Geoffrey Stoddard, 5 grandchildren: Brian, Erica & Emily Rutherford, Jennifer Mundy & Kyle Austin, & great granddaughter Lily Austin,
She grew up loving animals, music & riding horses on a dairy farm at Camron Corners, PA. She was basketball team captain & graduated 1947 salutatorian from Harford High School, PA.
At 18 she married high school sweetheart George Stoddard, who took her flying in his AT-6 at Totherstone Farm, Kingsley, PA. Nellie was bookkeeper for George's Century Aviation, a Cessna franchise in Tunkhannock, PA airport & Fleetville, PA at 77 Sunset Strip airport. Nellie became a private aircraft pilot, ferrying Cessna's from Wichita, Kansas & airports in the Northeast.
She divorced George in 1963 & married John Rutherford in 1964 who frequently took her ballroom dancing. She was John's bookkeeper for his dairy farm & construction businesses. At Fleetville Baptist Church Nellie was pianist/organist & Sunday school teacher. She was deeply religious, had a good sense of humor, loved adventure & wrote short stories.
Nellie & John Rutherford docked a Cris-Craft boat at Lake Seneca, NY & taught marine navigation for the Coastguard Auxiliary. In 1978 they moved to Spring Hill, FL piloting their Cris-Craft up the St. Lawrence Seaway & down the intercoastal waterway. Nellie worked as an accountant until John died in 1997.
Nellie married Donald Clark in 1998. They moved to Seneca, SC. Donald passed in 2017. Nellie developed dementia & moved to Maryland Heights, MO near daughter Debbie, into a memory care residence until her death.
A memorial service is being planned.
