Onofrio
Serra
Feb 9, 1938 — Oct 7, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Onofrio Serra on October 7, 2024, at the age of 86.
Onofrio was born on February 9, 1938, to Vincenzo and Ninfa Serra (nee Biondo) in Terrasini, Palermo. In that same town, Onofrio met the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Lucrezia Serra (nee Ventimiglia). During his 86 years of life, he was known for his strong will, unwavering determination, and love and support for his family.
Onofrio was a dedicated and successful carpenter, business owner, and restaurant owner of Serra's Pizzeria for 54 years. Growing up during World War II with a father at war, and being the oldest of seven children, he quickly learned to work and support his family. After he finished elementary school, he began working to provide for his siblings Teresa, Giuseppe, Giuseppina, Nicolo, Rosalia, and Arcangelo. As a young adult, he sought work in Switzerland and France, and in 1964 immigrated to the United States. He arrived by boat with little money and started a life in New York, later moving to Du Quoin, IL and finally settling in St. Louis, MO. He was a prosperous businessman and restaurateur, and truly was an example of the American dream. Onofrio helped many people start new lives in America, and was always there to provide for his wife, children, and siblings. He was a strong, tough, caring, smart, and giving man, and he made a legacy of the Serra name and family. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Vincenzo and Ninfa Serra, brothers Giuseppe and Nicolo Serra, and his beloved daughter Ninfa Biondo (nee Serra)
Survived by his loving wife Lucrezia, son Vincenzo Serra, daughters Rosalia (Randazzo) Serra, Teresa (Pizzo) Serra, son in laws Giovanni Biondo, Vito Randazzo, and Gianfranco Pizzo, daughter in law Giuseppina Serra (Abbate); grandchildren Pietro, Maria Grazia, Sofia, Gabriella (Serra), Antonino, Maria Angela, Giuseppina (Biondo) Vincenzo, Marco, Vito, Teresa (Randazzo), Arcangelo, Giuseppe (Pizzo).
