Father Phillip Gerard Krahman

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on August 22. Phil (79) was born November 18, 1946, in St. Louis, Mo to Herbert and Audrey Krahman (Kennedy). He was the second oldest of four children. He graduated from St Louis Preparatory Seminary in 1964. He earned a BA degree in Philosophy from Cardinal Glennon College and a Master of Divinity degree from Kenrick Seminary. Phil was ordained May 20,1972 by Cardinal Carberry at the Cathedral Basilica. His first mass was at his home parish, St Kevin Catholic Church on May 21. He served in several parishes in the St. Louis Metropolitan area as associate pastor. Inspired by pastoral training he received from St Louis University he made a transition. In June 1990 he became a Hospital Chaplain at St John’s Mercy Hospital spending many years in the Intensive Care Unit working with patients and staff. During this time at Mercy Hospital, he was involved with several Organ Transplant organizations both local and national. In 2014 he began serving as Liaison for Senior Clergy at Archdiocese of St. Louis Mo. In recognition of his contribution to the Archdiocese, he received in 2018 a Cardinal Rigali Service Award.

Phil was very active throughout his life. He was an avid running enthusiast, competing in marathons. Hiking, biking and several racket sports were a part of his life and important to him. He enjoyed many types of music and appreciated reading from many sources of media. Phil contributed greatly to his community, including his family. Always there at family functions sharing his dry wit and inciteful sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Marge and brothers Tom (Eileen) and Robert (Ann), niece Katherine (Scott) Giljum, great-niece Kaylie, and nephew Jeffrey (Annie) Krahman and great-niece Myra and great-nephew Ellis and many cousins.

Service will be on Thursday, Sept 10 at the St Vincent de Paul Chapel at the Rigali Center. There will be a Visitation is at 9:30 am. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Mass Service at 10:30 am. The Chapel is at 20 Archbishop May Drive, St Louis, MO 63119. Parking and main entrance is on the NE side of the building. Father Krahman donated his body to Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Phil will be missed by family, friends and his fellow priests.
