"Dan" Smith
Nov 18, 1949 — Sep 2, 2025
In Loving Memory of R. Dan Smith
1949 - 2025
R. Dan Smith, 75, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in 1949 to William Howard Smith and Alice Lee Smith, he was the loving brother of Scott (Mary Ann) Smith. Dan lived a life deeply centered on family, hard work, and helping others. He was the beloved husband of the late Sandra L. Smith (née Palazzolo), whom he married in 1971. Together, they shared nearly 53 years of marriage and formed a family that filled his heart with love.
He was the proud father of Danny (married to Penney) and Brian (married to Anne), and a loving grandfather to DJ, Clayton, Peyton, Madeline, and Cecilia. In addition to his immediate family, he was considered an adoptive father and grandfather to many, always ready to offer a helping hand or a word of encouragement. His willingness to step in and care for others made him a cherished figure in the lives of those who were lucky enough to know him.
A proud U.S. Marine, he valued the brotherhood he shared with his fellow Marines throughout his life.
He had a long career selling tractor trailers, spending most of his time at Fruehoff and Werts Welding and Tank Service before retiring. Along the way, he built lasting friendships and gained the respect of all who worked with him.
He found joy in the simple things—playing golf, traveling, and, above all, spending quality time with his family and friends. He was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, Mizzou Football, and PGA Golf. In the last year of his life, he developed a love for watching the St. Louis Blues. His sense of humor, warm heart, and steady presence will be greatly missed.
His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, with his love, kindness, and dedication continuing to inspire and be remembered by all who knew him. Deeply loved, he will forever be missed.
May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and memories of those who held him dear.
