Ronald J.
Unterreiner
Oct 20, 1933 — Apr 23, 2022
Unterreiner, Ronald Joseph Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church Saturday, April 23, 2022.
Beloved husband of Joan Unterreiner (nee Modde); dearest father of Kim (the late Cheryl) Unterreiner, Tony (Patti) Unterreiner, Robert Unterreiner, and Julie Portman; dear grandfather of Matthew Unterreiner, Marie Unterreiner, Evan Huss, Kathryn Portman, and Jack Portman; Beloved son of the late Linus and Lucile Unterreiner; brother of Carol (Eugene) Buerck, Connie (Norm) Kohnen, Bev (Jim) Blythe, and the late Laverne (Raymond) Forsyth, and Harold (Velda) Unterreiner; our dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Ron lived a long life full of love for his family, friends and God. He was married to Joan for 64 years and focused his time on building a life with her that was loyal, loving, fun, adventurous and served others. He helped raise their four children instilling values of independence, empathy, faith in God, pride in America and love of a good time. He and Joan traveled the United States and Europe, they squared danced, camped, fished, played games, cheered on the Cardinals, were active in their church, served the poor and loved each other fiercely. He was a favorite among his grandchildren, making them laugh with his crazy stories and always wanting to know how they were and what they were up to. Ron cherished time with his large families of the Unterreiners and Moddes, rarely missing a celebration or opportunity to visit.
Ron loved being in nature whether at their place at Lake Perry, the beach, golfing with friends, hunting in the woods, visiting National Parks, driving through Ireland and Scotland or simply sitting on his porch with a cup of coffee and a cookie. He enjoyed being active in the Knights of Columbus, many years spearheading his council's annual Tootsie Roll Drive to help the mentally handicap. He and Joan donated time and talents with St. Patrick's Center and food pantries at the former St. Sebastian Parish, Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish and in Ferguson. He loved spending time with friends, whether it be lifelong friends he met as a boy growing up in Perryville, or those met through work, church or the many organizations he was involved in. He was proud of his service to our country in the Army and beamed when he'd wear his veteran hat and was thanked for his service. He worked for over 35 years at McDonnell Douglas, through the ups and downs he was steadfast. While there may not have been an abundance, he always made sure Joan and his family had what they needed and knew they were loved, he praised and thanked God, shared with the less fortunate, planned for the future and enjoyed the present.
