Shirley
Waliszewski
Oct 7, 1949 — Jun 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Shirley Ann (nee Simmons) Waliszewski. She went to be with the Lord after a 6-month battle with lung cancer on June 18, 2021 at the age of 71 years. Shirley was born in Zanesville, Ohio on October 7, 1949, to her parents that preceded her in death, Claude and Helen (nee Thompson) Simmons.
She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 51 years, Louis Waliszewski; her two children Chris (Shelly) Waliszewski and Julie (Alvin) Lewis, and her four grandchildren, Devon Waliszewski, Kyle Waliszewski, Savanna Lewis and Maxwell Lewis. She is also survived by her siblings Richard "Dick" Reeves, Edward "Eddie" Simmons, Gary Simmons, Cathy Hirschfelt and Carole Sue Browning.
After graduating from Zanesville High School in Ohio, Shirley enlisted in the United States Air Force, on November 3, 1967. She was assigned to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. She met her husband Louis Waliszewski who was also in the United States Air Force and assigned to Eglin Air Force Base. They started dating in early 1969. They both held the rank of Sergeant while serving our country. Louis and Shirley were married on November 15, 1969. They both received an Honorable Discharge in February 1970 and shortly afterwards moved to St. Louis, MO where she lived the remainder of her life.
She loved her children and expressly loved her grandchildren and never got tired talking to them, or about them, or seeing them. Their greatest memories will always be baking cookies with her.
She was a devote catholic and attended St. Jude's Church.
Her husband, son and daughter were at her side the last seven days while she was on Hospice and were with her when she passed away peacefully at home.
God love you Shirley and we will always love you and miss you.
Mass services will be held Tuesday, June 29, 9:00 AM at St. Jude Church with the Interment to follow at Jefferson Barracks; Shirley asked that no flowers be sent, but instead to send donations to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.
