Obituary

Terry Briggs passed away unexpectedly at his home on 2/14/2024 at the age of 68.

Terry was born on 4/6/1955, to William and Dorothy Briggs. He grew up in North County St. Louis and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1977 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. In 1978, he married his college sweetheart, Lorie Johns, and they had 3 children: Josh, Jeremy, and Haley. Terry worked in various public facing roles at MSD, SITE Improvement Association, and the Eastern Missouri Laborers Union. He was elected Mayor of the City of Bridgeton during the tailend of his career and into retirement. Throughout his career, he pursued causes he was passionate about through board service with the Productive Living Board, Special Olympics Board, Special School District Board of Education and Municipal League of Metro St. Louis.

Terry's career gave him many opportunities to have fun helping people, and that also blended into his family life. He enjoyed taking family road trips in the various mini-vans the family owned - emphasizing at least one historic site; regardless of how far it was, he always knew a "shortcut".

Terry was often on the sidelines coaching the kids sports teams or out hunting with them during duck season. If he wasn't enjoying a round of golf at Berry Hill, during the quiet times around the house you'd find him watching black and white movies or old Western shows alongside Lorie.  As the grandkids came along, he became the ultimate "yes man"; willingly buying sweets, making trips to the park, playing outside, and even starring as "The Alligator Man" in short ipad movies they made.

Terry is survived by his wife Lorie (Johns) Briggs, his children Joshua Briggs, Jeremy (Ali) Briggs, Haley Briggs; three grandchildren, Nora, Elodie and Caleb; and siblings Daniel (Candace) Briggs, Debbie (Jeff) Burley and John (Vicki) Briggs; three nephews and five great nephews and nieces; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, Terry's family asks that donations be made to Valley Industries Sheltered Workshop at 143 James S. McDonnell Blvd, Hazelwood, Missouri 63042. The link to make a donation is: https://valleyind.net/fundraising-events/make-a-donation/
