Thomas John Chaney, Bridgeton, MO passed away peacefully Monday, January 25, 2021 at the age of 80, from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Tom was born March 19,1940 in Woodward, Oklahoma, son of the late John and Evelyn Chaney. Loving husband of 58 years to Carol Chaney. Loving father to Scott (Laura) Chaney, Suzanne (Christopher) Bangert. Dearest Papa to William Chaney, Katherine, Michael and Gabriella Bangert. Dear brother of Nancy Cation, Bangor, Maine. Dear brother-in- law, uncle, friend to many.
Tom will be remembered by his gentle, kind and patient spirit. He was a 37-year employee of Washington University where he worked as a Senior Research Associate in the Computer Science and Advanced Research Laboratories and was known worldwide as the "discoverer of the glitch". Tom was a very active member of Arlington United Methodist Church in Bridgeton. Later in life he became a Private Pilot who flew and owned Cessna 172's. Tom's greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He taught them to always be curious and to love learning and spent countless hours talking, teaching, loving and helping with scouts.
Arlington United Methodist Church will host a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial donations to Arlington United Methodist Church, 3770 McKelvey Rd. Bridgeton, MO 63044
