Obituary

William (Bill) L Thomas, age 81, son of Roger H. Thomas and Lavern M. (Flippin) Hall, passed away on March 12, 2021 at Mercy South Hospital, in St. Louis County. Bill was a resident of Marlborough, MO, and was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roger Wayne Thomas of Jefferson City, MO, and Judy Coons, of Webster Groves, MO,  high school classmate, former wife and devoted partner of 16 years.

Bill was born August 21, 1939, in Franklin, MO. He graduated from Jefferson City Senior High School in 1957. In January 1958, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until January 1962. After his completion of duty with the U.S. Army, Bill had a 35 year career in the petroleum business, all with the same company (MFA Oil Company) in Columbia, MO.

During his lifetime, Bill completed course work at Lincoln University, Columbia College, and after retirement went on to take some classes in art and politics at the Meramec Campus of St. Louis Community College.

Bill was very proud of his commitment to his faith and the respect of his family members who served in WWll. He enjoyed his work as a volunteer for the Cure' of Ars Catholic Church, working as an election volunteer during voting season, and was always greatly moved by the Greatest Generation.

Bill had a passion for painting. He was a member of the St. Louis Water Color Society and attended weekly meetings with his Art group. Although he liked to discuss the finer points of art, what he really enjoyed was the fellowship of friends.

Bill's other life-long obsession was Golf. At a young age, his Uncle Marvin gave him one club and took him to the course. After one good shot he was hooked. He liked being outdoors, being with friends and family, and the endless quest of that perfect round.

Bill is survived by one brother, Hensley E. Hall Jr., of Bridgeton, MO, one aunt, Velma Flippin, of Boonville, MO, niece, Patricia Malone, of California, MO, niece, Connie Moore, of Jefferson City, MO, and one nephew, Wayne Thomas of Jefferson City, MO.

Bill loved to tell a funny joke or story. I think that was his way to make people feel comfortable. Bill will be missed by extended family and friends, until we can hear the punch line or the end of the story in heaven.

William will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin, MO.
