William F.
Tierney
Mar 21, 1948 — Feb 17, 2025
William F. Tierney
William F. Tierney of St. Louis, MO entered into eternal rest on February 17, 2025 at his home in Bridgeton, MO surrounded by the love and light of his family.
William was born on March 21, 1948, in Saint Louis, MO to Francesca and William Tierney, the eldest of their six children. William graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in Biology in 1969, just a few weeks after marrying the love of his life Linda S. Tierney (née Rehagen) on June 7, 1969. William went on to become a Certified Public Accountant in January of 1977. William's accounting career spanned more than 50 years, including 40 years serving as partner in his own firm(s). His career served as a shining example of his personal work ethic and perseverance. Despite the stresses and pressure of being a CPA, Bill never lost sight of those he treasured most, his family. Bill was the epitome, the truest illustration on earth, of a loving husband and a father. His adoration and devotion to Linda was continuously on display throughout their 55 years of marriage. He and Linda enjoyed their lives raising their boys, doting on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and in more recent years traveling, spending more time together as a couple. They were fortunate to see and experience many of the world's most beautiful destinations.
Bill was a parishioner of St. Ann Church for almost 50 years, where he served as a respected Lector, Eucharistic Minister and part of the Choir. Bill enjoyed coaching his boys in all sports, soccer, basketball and baseball. With enduring support, hard work and determination, Bill always provided the finest example to his boys. A fierce competitor and avid card player (who may or may not have been known to throw his cards occasionally in frustration) he enjoyed monthly gatherings with friends. Bill was an accomplished artist, working in varied mediums including acrylic, oil, water color, and most recently charcoal. His artwork has filled his home and the lives of family and friends with both color and joyful memories. Bill was the 'get on the floor and play' type of PawPaw/Grandpa. All of his grandchildren and great grandchildren have enjoyed and benefited from his presence, his time, and his loving example. Making biscuit donuts with PawPaw/Grandpa will be a tradition that will certainly be passed on for generations to come.
William is survived by his loving wife Linda S. Tierney, mother Francesca Tierney, son William S. Tierney (Wildwood, MO), son Brian R. Tierney (Fairfield, CT), son Robert H. Tierney (St. Charles, MO), son Benjamin J. Tierney (Bel-Nor, MO), and son Brett A. Tierney (New Orleans, LA). He is survived by five loving daughter-in-laws, Jodi, Jennifer, Camella, Bridget, and Jennifer. William was proud to love 14 grandchildren who adored him, Lindsey, Nicholas, Megan, and Grace (children of Bill), Liam and Nolan (children of Brian), Miranda, Madi Sue, Matthew, and Macie (children of Bob), Margaret, Benjamin, and Alison (children of Ben) and Jack Francis (child of Brett). Bill was blessed to love three great-grandchildren, Elowyn and Lincoln (children of Miranda), and Mateo (child of Madi Sue). He also leaves behind loving siblings and in-laws, along with wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.
A Funeral Mass celebrating his exemplary life will be held at 11:00 a.m, on February 25, 2025 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Normandy, MO. Preceding the Mass there will be a one hour Visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. A private burial for immediate family only will follow on Wednesday February 26, 2025 at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers or remembrances, the family kindly requests donations be made in honor of Bill to: St. Ann Catholic Church, 7530 Natural Bridge Road, Normandy, MO 63121, www.stannchurch-stl.org
